ACCESS REHAB CENTERS, A WATERBURY HEALTH AND EASTERSEALS AFFILIATE, OPENS NEW DOWNTOWN WATERBURY LOCATION
Access Rehab Centers, a proud Waterbury HEALTH and Easterseals affiliate and areas largest therapy provider has added a new location to better serve patients.
Access Rehab Centers opened its newest clinic, at 36 North Main Street in Waterbury after an extensive analysis of the city and community health needs for physical therapy. The health equity focused analysis looked at patient needs and barriers to accessing care as well as prior experience of opening clinics in underserved areas in Waterbury such as Lakewood Road and East Main Street.
“We took a look at the Downtown area and it was obvious that we had an underserved population and the barrier of distance was the apparent primary factor hindering access to care,” said Access Rehab President and CEO Brian Emerick. “When we remove the transportation barriers, we ensure that more people can receive the care they need -right in their own community.”
“This expansion is more than just adding a new location - it is a powerful collaboration between Access Rehab Centers, the City of Waterbury, and UConn Waterbury to repurpose a historic landmark into a center for health and education,” said President and CEO Deborah K. Weymouth Waterbury HEALTH. “By embedding high-quality therapy services in the heart of downtown, we are reinforcing our commitment to equitable healthcare and strengthening our partnership with the community.”
A Ribbon Cutting Ceremony has been scheduled for April 24, 4 pm to 6 pm.
Access Rehab Centers, LLC is a partnership between Waterbury Hospital and Easter Seals of Greater Waterbury formed in 1998. Access Rehab provides more than 200,000 patient visits a year at its Greater Waterbury locations. It has 13 clinics, 2 specialty clinics, therapists in 30 area schools and 218 staff. It also provides therapy services to Waterbury Hospital patients.
The newest clinic, which is co-located with UConn Waterbury, is a large investment in meeting the needs of the downtown community. The six-story downtown building where UConn and Access Rehab are co-located is known locally as Odd Fellows Hall, a 36,300 square foot building which dates back to 1895.
Access is the only outpatient provider in the area that is accredited by CARF (Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities), which indicates that Access provides the highest documented quality and broadest array of therapy services in the Greater Waterbury area.
Broad range of services:
Access Rehab treats a broad range of orthopedic and neurologic conditions and also has a Pediatric Center and a Women's Health Center, each staffed by specialists trained in those disciplines. It has certified therapists specializing in other areas such as hand therapy, dizziness and balance issues and post cancer-surgery management, to name a few.
By offering a full spectrum of rehabilitation services, we are able to apply our broad knowledge and skills toward developing the best individualized treatment plan for each patient.
