Meet Amanda
“I am grateful every day that I now get to come to work and be a member of this amazing team.”
Transitioning from an 11-year paramedic and Supervisor to a registered nurse had me extremely nervous. I didn’t know what to expect. The adjustment from treating one patient at a time to treating multiple patients in a hospital setting was what scared me the most. How would I manage my time? How do I not confuse my patients? What if I make a mistake?
When I worked as a paramedic, the positive environment the nurses, PCAs, registration, housekeeping and many other employees of Waterbury Hospital always portrayed when I brought a patient in. It was the number one reason I wanted to work here when I obtained my RN.
I am grateful every day that I get to come to work and be a member of an amazing team.
My orientation process helped guide me through that evolution, and it was seamless. My fears and anxieties were alleviated on day one! I got to experience many different preceptors and each one of them brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to my learning. The one thing they all instilled in me was “do what works for you.” They never made me feel uncomfortable or inexperienced but demonstrated patience and understanding. They always made sure all my questions were answered and would go above and beyond to teach me new skills. They guided me every step of the way and challenged me intellectually until I was cleared to be on my own.
What I love most about working at Waterbury Hospital is the amazing team bond all nurses and employees have in every unit!
Working in the ER we are constantly helping one another in our assignments. When I transport patients to the ICU or Telemetry, I am always met with multiple nurses and PCAs from the unit ready to lend a helping hand.
The continuing education I have received through the various HealthStream assignments has kept me updated on changes to policies and procedures within my unit and hospital as well as provided me with new knowledge that I can implement into my nursing care.
