Michael's Story: Hernia Surgery

Michael Markarian lives in Rhode Island. When he needed surgery to repair a complex hernia in his abdomen, he did his research of surgeons in his state, in Massachusetts and then he heard about Dr. Zhongqiu “John” Zhang, a Waterbury Hospital colorectal surgeon trained at the Cleveland Clinic.

He was skeptical and nervous coming to his first visit with Dr. Zhang and his team. He brought a list of questions. And with every answer and interaction with Zhang and his team, he felt more and more comfortable. Markarian recommends Dr. Zhang to anyone who needs his services.

From his office staff at Alliance Medical Group Surgery Department to his surgery and stay at Waterbury Hospital, Markarian was very impressed with the team, the skills of each member, and excellent care he received.

“They do a tremendous job,” Markarian said of Dr. Zhang and his team.

Now healthy, the former electrician, is back to his active life that includes daily 3-mile walks with his wife.

“I feel great,” he said.
